On 2 September at 19:00, the Dzintari Concert Hall will close its summer season with a concert of outstanding musicians – the award-winning chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga and the contemporary folk music group Raxtu Raxti under the baton of conductor Normunds Šnē. The joint concert programme will feature the most beautiful compositions sung by Raxtu Raxti in new arrangements created by Emīls Zilberts.

The state chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Riga has always been open to collaborations with non-academic musicians, pushing the boundaries of genres and creating the joy of discovery. The music of Raxtu Raxti is characterised by professional and sensitive performance, passion and fearlessness to experiment with different ethnomusicology instruments, which gives a whole new colour to many well-known songs. Raxtu Raxti began its musical activity with the works of Imants Kalniņš, playing them with a sound characteristic of folk music. The concert will feature songs of Imants Kalniņš: “Karsta mana jauna dziesma”, “Rakstu raksti”, “Zanes dziesma” and others. The group is also constantly exploring folk music and Latvian values, creating modern and appealing compositions that charge with their energy and wisdom. The programme will include the wonderful songs “Pūt, vējiņi”, “Rūtoj saule”, “Ai, saulīte, mēnestiņi” and others by Raxtu Raxti.

The leader of Raxtu Raxti, ethnomusician Kristīne Kārkle-Kalniņa, is considered one of the most powerful voices on the modern stage, a purebred with natural musicality and magical power. The debut of the collective’s independent concert tours took place in the autumn of 2014, when on 18 November at the concert hall, Riga Raxtu Raxti gave its first big concert, which received undivided public sympathy and rave reviews. The group has released five albums to date. The current members of Raxtu Raxti are Kristīne Kārkle-Kalniņa (voice, violin, kokle), Marts Kristiāns Kalniņš (voice, harmonium, piano, pipes, oboe), Edgars Kārklis (voice, accordion, bagpipes, pipes), Armands Treilihs (bass guitar), Artis Orubs (percussion), Ilze Grunte (guitars, harp, mandolin).

The concert is supported by the local government of Jūrmala State City.
