On 14 July, the traditional sunrise concert will take place on Dzintari Beach with the main organist of the Elbe Philharmonic, known as the Queen of the Organ, Iveta Apkalna. Her sunrise concert programmes are always distinguished by thoughtful content and drama, where the selected compositions organically harmonise with the sounds of nature and gradually prepare us for the miraculous moment of sunrise, giving an unforgettable listening experience.
Iveta Apkalna is considered one of the leading soloist-instrumentalists in the world, who regularly performs with the world’s leading conductors and orchestras, as well as plays new organs for the first time at many concert venues. Iveta Apkalna is famous for her ability to expand the horizons of organ music with her personality. This is also proven by the awards she has received – Iveta is the first award-winning organist to receive the analogue of the “Grammy” in classical music – the prestigious “ECHO Klassik” award as the best-performing artist; her portfolio includes collaborations with the greatest composers and conductors of our time and she has already released 15 albums in CD and DVD formats.
She has given concerts in the most famous concert halls in Europe, Asia and the USA and has performed with leading symphony orchestras – the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Santa Cecilia Orchestra of the National Academy of Rome, the Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra – and the most distinguished conductors, among them – Claudio Abado, Mariss Jansons, Sir Antonio Papano, Dimitri Kitayenko, Gustavo Dudamel, Kent Nagano, Marek Janowski and Simone Young.
