The original music of multi-instrumentalist Raimonds Macats, inspired by folk music, is characterized by elegance, melodiousness, and nuanced emotions. The excellent cohesion of the experienced jazz musician’s assembled ensemble and the musical expression permeated with vitality and positive emotions captivate the attention and leave no one indifferent. Raimonds Macats has included references to the grandmasters of mouth harp playing in his new program – alongside the leader’s compositions, there are pieces from the repertoire of the Belgian legend Toots Thielemans and the American star Stevie Wonder, honoring the talent and significant contribution of these musicians to the development of this unique and charming instrument’s playing.
Program: Raimonds Macats, Toots Thielemans, Stevie Wonder, Latvian folk songs, etc.
15.10.2023. 14:00 Drum Master Artis Orubs
Participants: Artis Orubs, drum set; Ivars Ozols, sound engineering
Artis Orubs is one of the leading Latvian drummers, a musician of the Latvian Radio Big Band and several other musical ensembles, as well as a faculty member of the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music Jazz Department, who has studied not only in Riga but also in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Regarding his program “Artis Orubs – Drum Solo,” the musician reveals: “On stage, there is only one person and a classic drum set. There is no harmonic or electronic instrument for the musician to hide behind. I really enjoy this experiment with myself because it allows me to reveal my essence even more and understand how rhythmic sound interaction with the audience is formed. Each listener, regardless of their age or experience, is addressed directly and individually because music is magic that evokes emotions, stimulates reflection, awakens memories, or allows the body to heat up in dance. It is an exciting and surprising experience, a process that we can live together!”
Program: Artis Orubs
19.11.2023. 14:00 Daumants Liepiņš – Solo Concert
Pianist Daumants Liepiņš is the recipient of the 2017 Grand Music Award in the category of “Artist of the Year.” The young musician dazzles the juries of prestigious competitions and leaves no one indifferent who has had the privilege of hearing his playing. An extraordinary talent – a subtle and sensitive chamber musician, who is also familiar with the charismatic performance of a soloist accompanied by an orchestra. His piano playing is technically flawless, while his interpretations are convincingly profound and emotionally rich. In his new concert program, Liepiņš includes compositionally vivid and romantically infused pieces created in different eras. Alongside Pēteris Vasks’ picturesque observations of nature – “Summer Evening Music” and “Green Landscape,” there will also be a newly written piece specifically for Daumants by Arturs Maskats, as well as the dynamic and emotionally charged Third Piano Sonata by the master of absolute music, Johannes Brahms, and the impressive etudes “Devil’s Staircase” and “Autumn in Warsaw” by the rarely performed 20th-century avant-garde composer from Latvia, György Ligeti. And it remains to be said that the year 2023 marks the 190th anniversary of Brahms and the 100th anniversary of Ligeti!
Program: Johannes Brahms, György Ligeti, Pēteris Vasks, Arturs Maskats, etc.
