The Christmas Festival will also include a solo programme by pianist Andrejs Osokins, dedicated to the works of Franz Liszt, which will be performed in two concerts – on 17 December at 5 p.m. and on 19 December at 7 p.m.

Franz Liszt’s fame in the Romantic era is comparable to that of a rock star – he was adored and held in reverence by all of Europe. Liszt was a cult pianist of the 19th century, pioneer of a young era of the performing arts, who drew impulses on the world, art and religion to create his works. In the Years of Pilgrimage cycle, the composer conjured up musical paintings that emerged from all that he had captured with his gaze and soul while travelling through Europe. The concert will also include Liszt’s virtuoso etudes, “Mephisto Waltz No. 1”, “Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6” and Dreams of Love.

Pianist Andrejs Osokins is equally bright in concert programmes devoted to Western European classics, chamber music and works by contemporary composers. This year, Andrejs Osokins was awarded the Order of the Three Stars (an Officer of the Order) for his concert work and charity actions in support of Ukraine. The internationally renowned Latvian pianist regularly performs in legendary European concert halls – the Berlin Philharmonic, Konzerthaus Berlin, La Verdi Hall in Milan, Royal Festival Hall and Wigmore Hall in London, Gasteig Concert Hall in Munich, La Monnaie Concert Hall in Brussels, Opera Comique Hall in Paris and others.

Approximate duration: 1 hour 40 minutes
