On 31 December at 5 p.m., Canadian guitarist Remi Boucher will join the Kremerata Baltica Orchestra, Gidons Krēmers and the orchestra soloists in a New Year’s concert. “Remi Boucher has fire, passion, fervour and poetry, and he has a lot of it. When a guitar is played like this, it has hope…” (Collin Cooper, International Guitar Magazine, England). Renowned worldwide as one of the world’s leading guitar virtuosos, Remi Boucher impresses with both his inimitable artistry and his dazzling innovations on the instrument. Boucher has developed his own method of guitar technique and regularly collaborates with contemporary composers to create repertoire with new ways of playing the instrument.

We will hear echoes of the genteel court of King Charles II in baroque composer Henry Purcell’s music and Vivaldi’s Concerto for Guitar and Strings in G Major, perfectly suited to the mood of the New Year celebrations, with its joyful jubilation, uplifting spirit and singing melodicism. And the 19th-century Italian composer Mauro Giuliani, in his Concerto No. 1, grants the guitar soloist with unprecedented brightness and virtuosic expressiveness. There will also be works by the harmony idealist Georg Peleč and hot-blooded compositions by the king of tango Astor Piazzolla.

Approximate duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
