Seeking a ray of hope in times when the world is torn by the madness of war and human suffering, masterful pianist Reinis Zariņš and the captivating Frankfurt Opera soloist Zanda Švēde unite in the concert program Bright Night.
The first part of the concert highlights musical gems of the past century—Arnold Schoenberg’s pre-atonal piano music intertwines with the emotionally charged songs of Gustav Mahler and the vocal miniatures of Hanns Eisler, speaking of people in wartime, despair, hope, and trust in God.
The second part showcases music by contemporary composers—Nico Muhly’s cycle The Last Letter, inspired by letters written during World War I, John Corigliano’s Fantasia on an Ostinato, balancing between light and darkness, and excerpts from Jonathan Dove’s song cycle All You Who Sleep Tonight, which explores themes of night and solace.
Program: Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schoenberg, Hanns Eisler, John Corigliano, Jonathan Dove, Nico Muhly
