For his solo concert at Dzintari Concert Hall, pianist Vestards Šimkus has prepared a new program in a festive spirit, perfectly suited for the end of the year. He invites the audience to enjoy one of the most popular musical genres of the Romantic era – piano transcriptions.
The concert program will intertwine the rhythms of Viennese waltzes and other dances, touching love songs, the enlightened beauty of Baroque music, as well as melodies from popular operas and operettas. The audience will hear exquisite and virtuosic piano versions of compositions by Franz Schubert, Frédéric Chopin, Georges Bizet, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Fritz Kreisler, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Johann Strauss, arranged by legendary pianists such as Franz Liszt, Vladimir Horowitz, Imre Stefaniai, Earl Wild, Egon Petri, and Moriz Rosenthal.
In special tribute to Latvian composer Emīls Dārziņš on his 150th anniversary, the program will also feature a piano transcription of his choral song Minjona, arranged specifically for this occasion by Vestards Šimkus.
