Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater on Good Friday at Dzintari Concert Hall

On April 18, Dzintari Concert Hall will resonate with Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s masterpiece Stabat Mater—one of the most beautiful and emotional musical depictions of Christ’s Passion.

The concert will feature the young and promising soprano Etīna Emīlija Saulīte, who was among the world’s top singers in an international young soloists competition and received several prestigious awards. She will be joined by the outstanding mezzo-soprano Ieva Parša and the Riga Cathedral Boys’ Choir under the direction of conductor Mārtiņš Klišāns.

Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater was the composer’s final work, written as a personal requiem. Its operatic virtuosity and deeply expressive lamentations once astonished audiences with their emotional intensity. The 18th-century philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau described its opening duet as “the most moving duet ever written.”

This is one of the most beloved sacred compositions—a truly unforgettable musical experience on Good Friday!
