Description:
Those who love Aleksandrs Čaks’ poetry are familiar with the strange feeling that the events depicted by the poet seem as if they’ve been lived by oneself. The places poetically described feel intimately close and familiar—streets with their scents and lights, the city outskirts with meadows where goats graze and starlings whistle, or a window weeping softly in the mist.
In 2021, we celebrated the significant anniversary of Aleksandrs Čaks. His poetry inspired composer Jānis Lūsēns to create a new concert program reflecting the many facets of the poet’s work.
The newly composed songs by Jānis Lūsēns have gained a distinctive sound through the intertwining of two masculine vocal timbres—Zigfrīds Muktupāvels’ and Jānis Strazdiņš’ baritones. The composer himself performs on the piano, accompanied by the instrumental richness of Jānis Lūsēns Jr.’s bass guitar and Harijs Gūtmanis’ rhythmic pulsations and delicate percussion tones.
Program:
Songs composed by Jānis Lūsēns with lyrics by Aleksandrs Čaks, music for imaginary films, and conversations.
