Legendary musician Grigorijs Kovalevskis: 60 years on stage

Grigorijs Kovalevskis celebrates his anniversary on May 23. This means that everyone will have a celebration – the listeners, who will get an extra-class concert; the outstanding soloists, who will come to Latvia to join the hero of the day on the Dzintari stage; and, of course, Grigori  himself. 60 years on stage is no joke. And what years! Brilliant. Incredible. Inspirational.

If there are higher circles in music, double bassist Grigory Kovalevsky entered them immediately and forever. He played in the orchestras of two great conductors, Kirill Kondrashin and Rudolf Barshai, he caught the heyday of Arvid Jansons and the first successes of his son Maris, his musical partners were such  Sviatoslav Richter and Mstislav Rostropovich, Pinchas Zukerman, Eliso Virsaladze and Natalia Gutman, Misha Maisky and Mikhail Pletnev, the Borodin Quartet and Yevgeny Kissin, Gerard Causset and Tabea Zimmermann.

Now Grigory Kovalevsky lives in Jurmala, which has been dear to him since his youth. For the first time he performed on the stage of the concert hall “Dzintari” 55 years ago. Here he shares his enormous experience and knowledge with young musicians, here he performs with young colleagues and old friends. The 60th anniversary of his creative activity became a perfect occasion to gather like-minded people who serve music as ardently as Kovalevsky himself.

Representatives of the famous violin dynasty of Garlicki will come. The excellent soloist and ensemble player Boris Garlitsky, Daniel Garlicki, violinist and conductor, composer and arranger, pianist Ludmila Berlinskaya

And the new generation of Latvian string players, with whom Grigori Kovalevsky likes to play, will be represented during the anniversary by cellist Maksims Skibicki and violist Santa Lucija Circene – they have already made their first steps in their professional career, and these steps were very confident.
