Artists:
Iveta Apkalna, organ

On July 20, the now-traditional Sunrise Concert will take place on Dzintari Beach, featuring Iveta Apkalna – the principal organist of the Elbphilharmonie and often hailed as the Queen of the Organ. Her sunrise concert programs are always marked by thoughtful content and dramaturgy, with carefully selected pieces that harmoniously blend with the sounds of nature, gradually preparing listeners for the magical moment of sunrise and offering an unforgettable musical experience.

This year’s program will be a meditative and spiritually uplifting musical journey, combining masterpieces from the Baroque and Romantic eras with works by contemporary Latvian and Estonian composers. From Arvo Pärt’s transparent Spiegel im Spiegel and Johann Sebastian Bach’s majestic Passacaglia in C minor to the rich romanticism of César Franck’s organ music.

At the heart of the program are two works by Aivars Kalējs – the radiant, celestial Lux aeterna and the virtuosic toccata on the chorale Glory to God in the Highest. The concert will culminate with Pēteris Vasks’ monumental praise of God Te Deum – music that unites humility, strength, and hope.
