PROGRAMME
Johann Sebastian Bach Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo BWV 1001–1006
PARTICIPANTS
Isabelle Faust, violin
Double Gramophone Award 2024 recipient and Opus Klassik 2024 Instrumentalist of the Year, the outstanding German violinist Isabelle Faust is critically acclaimed as a compelling and fearless interpreter. “Faust is a thinker,” writes The Guardian. She is not attracted by superficial brilliance, but by authenticity and the music behind the score. It is almost unbelievable that Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical visions, created almost 300 years ago, remain a cornerstone of stability in today’s age of uncertainty and can bring relief to man’s overstimulated senses. Isabelle Faust has been particularly successful in cracking Bach’s musical riddles. She unfolds Bach’s one-voiced melody, written in magical simplicity, into multidimensional architecture, with sustained attention to technical precision as well as an emotionally profound search for the real. Reserved in her simplicity and devotion to music, Isabelle Faust is a true nature’s child and, like her Stradivari violin, Sleeping Beauty (1704), which was found in an old German castle, seeks to discover the path to truth and humanity.
