The velvet-voiced Jānis Kurševs and one of the most remarkable and versatile Latvian pianists, multiple Great Music Award laureate Agnese Egliņa, have been making music together for many years.
Always paying special attention to the works of Latvian masters, this harmonious duo celebrates the 150th anniversary of Emīls Dārziņš in their latest collaboration. Often described as the most emotionally sensitive and spiritually refined Latvian composer, this classicist can also be rightfully called one of the greatest melodists. “Aizver actiņas un smaidi” (Close Your Eyes and Smile), “Vēl tu rozes plūc” (You Still Pick Roses), and “Teici to stundu, to brīdi” (Tell Me the Hour, the Moment) are just a few of his richly expressive vocal love lyric gems that deeply resonate with every listener’s heartstrings.
Alongside these treasures, the program also features piano works and folk song arrangements for voice and piano by the composer’s son, Volfgangs Dārziņš, who continues the musical traditions begun by his father.
