On July 30 in Jūrmala, audiences will be treated to a new, emotionally rich musical performance – “I Looked Back to See”, a musical by Maxim Leonidov.
Due to changes in the artist’s work schedule, actor Danila Kozlovsky has started work on a new theatre project and, unfortunately, will not be able to participate in touring performances during this period. Therefore, the performance “Check-up”, previously scheduled for July 30, will not take place. Instead, audiences are offered a new and inspiring opportunity – to discover Maxim Leonidov’s autobiographical musical story.
Maxim Leonidov is a beloved and unconventional singer. And the musical – a captivating and vivid genre. Now, imagine a musical performed solo by Maxim Leonidov himself! “I Looked Back to See” – a line from a famous song – has become the title of this one-man show. The performance invites the audience to follow the stories and melodies that have been important to the musician himself and that echo in the memories of his fans.
Each scene is a fragment of his biography, each infused with the music that accompanied Maxim through different stages of his life. His childhood in Leningrad, choir school, the renowned Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography, military service in the Soviet army, the dizzying success of the beat quartet “Sekret” – all these life chapters are underscored by the voices of The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Soviet songs, American and Italian pop music – and even Bach, when Leonidov sits at the piano.
A special highlight of the show is its unique graphic design. The illustrations for “I Looked Back to See” were created by Maxim’s close friend – Andrei Makarevich, leader of the band “Mashina Vremeni” and a talented visual artist. His drawings are organically woven into the show’s atmosphere and become characters in the story, just like the music and lyrics.
