Location: Great Hall
Event Producer: Latvijas koncerti

Interpretations by vibrant cellist Mischa Maisky are characterized by a volcanic passion and intricate poeticism, brilliant technique, and emotional depth. This extravagant Rīga-born artist is a welcome guest at the most prestigious concert halls and famous festivals, and he speaks to a wide audience all over the world with his extraordinary performing style and colorful image. For four decades, he has been an artist with the influential record label Deutsche Grammophon who has graced over forty albums with his presence as a chamber musician and performed with many outstanding orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker. This former student of cello legends Rostropovich and Piatigorsky feels at home among the sounds of any era, surprising his audience with impressive takes on baroque and contemporary music alike and touching souls with emotional and deeply personal interpretations of classical and Romantic masterpieces.

Returning to his beloved Dzintari Concert Hall, Mischa Maisky invites all to give in to the charm of a golden repertoire as he looks into the partitures of classical elegance and radiant Romantic longing, joined by chamber orchestra Sinfonietta Rīga under the artistic leadership of conductor Normunds Šnē. Along with Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Rococo Theme, filled with leisurely playfulness and elegant sway, the concert will also feature fragments from the Russian classic’s cycle of picturesque descriptions of the seasons, as well as Symphony No. 23 by Tchaikovsky’s beloved Austrian genius Mozart, inspired by theater dramaturgy. It is a great match to Cello Concerto No. 1 by Haydn, the oldest composer of the Viennese school, and Kol Nidrei by German Romanticist Max Bruch, which was inspired by Jewish prayer.
